Uprooting of rice seedling is done manually. It is usually done on dry ground, but sometimes it is done on wet land as well. The uprooted seedling is fastened to make one bundle called "akhase" and then carried to the field ready for transplantation.
Rice transplantation is a common practice among the Bodo people. Rice is the most widely cultivated crop and the family without rice field is still considered as poor. Rice cultivation is largely dependent on monsoon rain and sometimes appears uncertain.
Ploughing by bullocks was a common practice of the Bodos a decade or two ago. Nowadays this practice is fast losing due to mechanization of farming. It is replaced by a tractor and most farmers hire it on hourly and often considered as cheaper.
