It has athermal property, hence the cloth made from eri remains warm in winter and cool in summer. Eri silk is much heavier as compared to other silk so it can be blended nicely with cotton, wool, jute or even mulberry silk to create exotic and high quality home furnishings, shawls, stoles etc. Eri can be spun from coarse to very fine yarns and can be easily washed at home. Eri silk is considered the legacy of the Bodos. It is well documented that the art of eri silkworm rearing, spinning and weaving was introduced by the Bodo indigenous people in India. The use of eri silk is closely associated with the culture and tradition of the Bodo society from time immemorial and occupies a unique place in the socio-economic life of the Bodo people.
